About Morella

I trained in Clinical Psychology in Colombia, and have worked principally in counselling since I arrived in Canada.  I returned to school at Western University to complete a Masters of Education in Counselling and graduated in 1999.  In 2002 I became a Registered Social Worker (RSW) with the College of Social Workers (OCRSWSSW). This qualification was granted because of my lengthy experience in the field of Social Work.  I am also a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA) and a Certified Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapist.

I worked at the Sexual Assault Centre London (SACL) for almost 10 years, starting as a group counsellor, but primarily as a Counselling Coordinator. I resigned SACL in 2004 and started work with Daya Counselling Centre. I also did Employment Assistance Program counselling working mainly with Homewood Health. Presently I am a full time private practitioner.

I find my counselling profession to be very rewarding. While I often see individuals at traumatic moments, by providing validation, positive regard and re-framing, I subsequently observe them turning things around, often transforming what were once obstacles into challenges that they are able to overcome.

I communicate my belief to clients that there is “light at the end of the tunnel”. I work from a Strength Based Approach which gives me the opportunity to discover clients’ mettle and resilience which can be used to expand their ability to reframe difficult circumstances.

Warm regards,
